The Entrepreneur is a business accelerator program, presented in a competition format on an annual basis, that supports the growth and development of emerging businesses in a number of regions in South Africa. Structured and intensive, the competition finalists receive knowledge, skills, guidance, mentorship, and educational and other resources to accelerate the growth of their businesses. The awarding of funding for business development increases the chances of business viability.

The academic content is based on Dr Alexander Osterwalder’s Business Model, with the Business Model Canvas being used as a framework by finalists to interrogate their businesses at a practical level.

The programme/competition is presented by a select number of Chambers of Commerce in collaboration with various benefactors, most notably Airports Company South Africa (ACSA).

The combination of networking, exposure and publicity provide opportunities for participants to showcase their businesses and increase its visibility.
